Exhibit: Celebrating Youth Exhibit
March is Youth Art Month
Each year a wide range of student artwork is selected to demonstrate the talent, imagination, and diversity of Yankton students while celebrating the creative spirit of young artists and recognizing the vitality and value of art education.
This year's exhibit features students from Yankton High School.
Peter Deming, Art Educator
My mom, three siblings and I are all teachers. The love of learning was instilled in me early on. I taught in Colorado for thirteen years and this is my fourteenth year at Yankton High School. I like teaching the "conceptual" aspect of art. The media skills and techniques of art are important also but they are taught, much like grammar and punctuation side of art. The concept is the story side of art. The idea and meaning that each artist puts into their work.
Mallory Schmidt, Art Educator
Originally from Brookings, SD, I attended college at Southwest Minnesota State University. This is my ninth year teaching and my sixth year at Yankton High School. I've always wanted to be a teacher, and I've always loved the arts so art education seem like a natural fit for me. My favorite project to teach my students is the book sculpture.
