Cramer-Kenyon Board of Directors Sets Date for Annual Garden Party

June 13, 2010
2:00 pmto4:00 pm

The Directors of the Cramer-Kenyon Heritage Home, located at 509 Pine Street in Yankton, have set Sunday, June 13 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. as the time and date for the annual Garden Party and Fundraiser.

Although the home itself will not be open for tours on this day, the two city lot grounds and gardens will be dressed in their best to welcome visitors with refreshments and an opportunity to be a part of the elegance and beauty of the Victorian era. A special feature of the grounds is the Dorothy Jencks Memorial Garden, which was the creation of Mr. Stan Hoffart, a certified arborist who continues to serve on the Board of Directors, and which was dedicated in 1989 as a part of the Yankton Centennial celebration. Mr Hoffart and Board President Anne Swift, a Master Gardener, will offer tours of the garden which features plants which would have been grown in this region during the late Victorian era.

Dorothy Jencks was born on September 15, 1905 in Yankton, graduated from both Yankton High School and Yankton College and spent her professional life as an accountant. She authored the book Some Historic Homes in Yankton, D.T. which still serves as a resource for historians and was particularly involved with the preservation of the Cramer-Kenyon Heritage Home to which she donated many of her own artifacts.

Donations will be accepted as you enter the gardens.

Yankton Children’s Choir will Hold 2nd Summer Day Camp Along With

June 29, 2010toJune 30, 2010

The 2009 Summer Day Camp sponsored by the Yankton Children’s Choir through the City of Yankton Parks and Recreation Department was so popular that it will be repeated in June 2010.

This year’s program will be held on two mornings – Tuesday, June 29 from 9:00 a.m. until noon and Wednesday, June 30 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The last part of Wednesday’s experience will be a lunch-time concert to which parents and friends are invited. They will hear the results of the two mornings of work.

The location will be Yankton College Alumni Hall, which is at the south end of the Summit Activities Center. There the young singers, grades 3 through 8, will learn to read two-part treble music with a professional director and accompanist, in preparation for the second day’s performance.

A snack will be provided mid-morning.

Only 30 participants will be accepted. Registration must be made online at www.cityofyankton.org using the link to “Recreation Programs Online” which will take you to Yankton Children’s Choir Day Camp. There is a $10 fee, which must be paid at the time of the registration.

Auditions will be held that afternoon for the 2010-2011 singing season which parallels the school year. Information on the choir and auditions will be available both days of the day camp. There will be additional auditions on August 16 at the United Church of Christ as well. More information will follow for that opportunity.
